I know some of you are conflicted over pressing students to change their really stupid names, like Jail, Bunny, Rabbit, Brain, Queenie....well worry no more. Go for it. I found this little tidbit researching the Rebar case today:A spokesman for the DPP, Super Meng (孟義超), and China affairs department director Lai I-chung (賴怡忠) asked Ma to negotiate with China.
"Super"? Puh-lease.

Well... uh... at least he can say it's comes from the meaning of his Chinese name. I think he should have taken the plunge and translated the 義, though. Then, he could be Super Righteous Meng. No need for half measures.
True story:
(Scene: At a cram school in central Taiwan.)
Child's Parent: My son's name is "Asser."
Teacher: Uh, how do you spell that?
CP: "A-S-S-E-R."
T: Uh, are you sure? That isn't a very nice-sounding name...
CP (irate): What do you mean? When we lived in Taipei, his name was Asser and no one said anything about it!
T (checking to make sure she heard correctly): "Asser"?!
CP: Yes! Asser. Just like the computer company.
