DPP Tsai-Lin HQ Opening

My family and I attended the opening of the Tsai Ing-wen/Lin Chia-lung United Taichung HQ this morning. The event ran from 9-12 am and was attended by the usual suspects. A few pics and comments below the fold.

Everything ready to go, about 8:30. We came early and got excellent seats.

The crowd quickly filled in. There were people from everywhere, some bused in. Behind us sat a group of Lion's Clubbers from Kaohsiung.

One of the hosts of The Talking Show

Lin Chia-lung, running for the legislature, and his wife on stage.

Su Jia-chyuan, the DPP's mayoral candidate here in Taichung last year and now Tsai Ing-wen's Veep candidate. He's an excellent speaker.

Su gets warmed up.

Su Tseng-chang also came. I love his deep voice and passionate speaking style.

Tsai finally showed around 10:45. She's not as passionate a speaker as any of the preceding gentlemen, but she is really cute, exudes a quiet warmth and displays total mastery of her material and message.

Here she prepares to speak.

She and Lin share a moment. Piggies were everywhere in evidence, and the DPP workers were handing them out in the crowd.

Hitting a point.

A policewoman handles the traffic. The police did a super job with crowd control.

This was not a major rally. My son calculated that somewhat over 4,000 seats had been set out, probably half again that number standing. 6-7000 at the most.

After the speeches, everyone ran for the free food....

...and the swag.

The little rally was strictly by the numbers, professional, bland, but effective, like the campaign. Very pleasing to witness. The DPP is running a much better campaign than the KMT this time around, so far.
