Some light from the Taiwan blogosphere....

  • While not a Taiwan blog per se, don't wanna die a virgin has put up photos from a recent trip to Taiwan, many of which are quite good. I've stolen one dramatic pic for the lead photo above. Taiwan Perspective has some excellent B&W photos. Patrick Cowsill has some pics of an HSR station. Without the people.

  • Some video of the HSR in operation over at The Real Taiwan. Looks fun!

  • Feiren has another good post on the media and Taiwan politics over at Taiwan Matters. Don't miss Taiwan Echo's comments there. I'll be blogging more on the tight links between the KMT and the China Times tomorrow.

  • Wulingren has a wonderful set of musings on how Taipei came to be.

so rare are people willing to examine and discuss the premise of their position on Taiwan's legal status issue. I am really hoping that you or other people from Taiwan Matters!! would come back and continue the chat on the value of a taiwanese de jure independence.

    so.

Just wanted to chime in with thanks for your kind comment. New to both Taipei and the blogging; apologies for not leaving a more content-relevant comment: your blog’s a treasure trove--seems like Taiwan central!--and I don’t know quite where to start. But wanted to say thanks, since after I dive in, I might not resurface for days. :-)

    Hi Michael,

Your point is duly noted. We get posts from several contributors, and I don't screen all of them. I actually think sometimes a good debate could come out of a remark like that. I personally don't agree with it, and will can that part. Maybe you know more about this, but isn't part of the reason Taiwanese businesses can still maintain themselves in Taiwan because of their higher level of training to operate machinery and consequently make a better product? It would seem the remark made by the poster is off base....
