China's New F-10 vs the US F-22

An interesting cast into the pond of discussion about US and Chinese fighters, and the problem of air superiority over Taiwan. As I have noted here many times, China's air force appears to be a match and then some for Taiwan's.

It isn't correct to call it the F-10 for any reason. It would be like the Chinese calling the Raptor the J-22 because they use "J" as a reference letter.

The J-10 is the best domestic fighter China has made, but it isn't better than the latest F-16s. It also is nowhere near the Eurofighter (or Raptor) - a Typhoon would eat it for lunch. In fact I would rate the Typhoon 2nd behind the Raptor and ahead of any other jet in service in terms of air-to-air combat.

USAF will really benefit from the F-22, given it is still head-and-shoulders above most planes. Though I wouldn't worry too much about the export version of the J-10, as it will be downgraded somewhat (and isn't getting Russian engines).

I don't know why people want to Blog about a topic of F-22 Vs J-10.
Certainly that's not how war is conducted. It is never a one on one clear cut comparason.

BTW the F-22 would never even get near a J-10 unless the J-10 is in Taiwan airspace and realistically the chances of chinese fighter ever entering Taiwan is quite slim
I.e. standoff capability of operational Chinese missile or precision guided bombs range from 60km to 300km.

DoD has a report on the vunerability to stealth platforms to SAMs and concluded there is considerable threat to enter a radius of 60km of a integrated SAM battery such as the S-300 which is why SEAD(supression of enermy air defence) missions are never preformed by stealth platforms. Somehow I don't see how this practice would change with F-22. This means F-22 would never engage Chinese fighters launching Standoff munitions under SAM cover unless Taiwan ops to purchase F-22 (not realistic even in the next decade).

It's plain silly to talk only about F-22 vs. J-10, J-11 or whatever without discussing the overall air picture over the Taiwan Straits. The PLA is putting in S-300s in the area, expanding the "keep out" zone for US and Taiwan aircraft because they don't have an effective strategy of defeating these systems. Add to that the vulnerability of the Patriot and other sites to the Harpy anti-radiation UAVs, the combination of ballistic and cruise missiles on airfield operations, the air battle may never take place.
