Waiguoren Taiwan Project

Mark Payne alerted me to his new blog: Waigoren Taiwan Project (erroneous link now updated!)

The welcome message:

Welcome to Waigoren Taiwan!

A new project under way with the task of collecting stories about Taiwan as viewed through the eyes of 'waigoren'. The aim is to collect an array of stories, anecdotes and reflections from as broad a cross-section of waigoren as possible, in order to present a complete picture of their Taiwan experience.

It is hoped that we can collect stories right from the inception of the R.O.C. in 1949 through to the present. Stories of every kind are welcome- we want a complete picture including the good, the bad and the ugly! It is anticipated that the collection process will take a year (possibly longer) and those stories selected for inclusion may be edited or condensed. However, those who do NOT contribute anonymously will get the chance to approve such editorial meddlings.

Stories can be of any kind and any length- doing business in Taiwan, relationships, communication problems, having fun in Taiwan, having a nightmare in Taiwan, weird experiences, great experiences and on and on: it is hoped that the stories received will reflect the diversity of experiences waigoren have had here through the years.

Stories can be emailed to waigorentaiwan@yahoo.com.

Alternatively, you can post stories in the comments section of this blog page.

So, if you have any stories about Taiwan you wish to share, email or post now. Likewise, if you know anyone who you think could positively add to this project please let them know about this blog.

It is hoped at the end of the project to publish them in book format, alongside photographs and commentary about the political, economic, social and cultural developments underway during this period. So please help and spread the word.
