Light blogging predicted....

On the east coast this weekend, so no blogging for a couple more days. But entertain yourselves with what is undoubtedly one of the worst articles I have ever read on Taiwan, flipped to me by my friend Drew:

The New Land of Smiles

It would take a PhD thesis to correct all its innumerable errors. Have a great weekend!

Who is Okami? Michael can you invite her (I guess it's a woman) to write a guest blog piece on "The View from Taiwan"? What she comments about sweet potato and voters' age demographic are fascinating. She sure knows stuff and I'm very interested to read whatever she has to write about.

Have a great weekend too. And as a fan, I chant photo, photo from the east coast, east coast...

RE: ''The road ahead will not be easy, as the entrenched KMT party machine will do whatever it can to twist the rules of the game and tilt the playing field so that it can retain power,....''

Trevor UK-elele player in Cornwall asks why DPP green paranoia is stil so strong? This oped in Typo Times last week was silly. She says that KMT will alter election like commies...come on! Grow up DPP and face reality

my take

The road ahead will not be easy, as the DDP will have an uphill battle to take back the presidency from the KMT and of course the KMT party machine will fight hard as they always do, but so will the DPP party machine, that is what makes democracy strong, and may the best man win...

Forget this paranoid BS: do whatever it can to twist the rules of the game? and tilt the playing field so that it can retain power?

Trevor who wisehs he was back in the saddle again in taibei

I'm a girl? You need better trolls, Mr. Turton.

My guess is the writer of that piece was wined and dined like you were in Pingdong. The KMT and Taiwan have all sorts of little groups, NGO's and whatnot all working to some purpose or cross purpose of another group.

I think the DPP's hardest part is selling something to the people of Taiwan that the KMT doesn't already do better. No one wants to pay more in taxes and if you want social programs, you need to pay more in taxes. I'd hate to see the DPP in power when the bill comes due.

The article was hilarious in it's naivety.
Wanted to let you know there is a wonderful looking Taiwan Film Series at Lincoln Center that began Friday. If I only I lived in NYC...

The first thing that I noticed when I clicked the article link is actually the "Hockey Pool" icon, which made me realize it's a newspaper from my beloved hometown. Despite the entertainment factor I have to say it was slightly embarassing to read as a Canadian/former Vancouverite.
