Tancredo to Leave Congress

Rep. Tom Tancredo (R), longtime friend of Taiwan and its affairs, will not seek a sixth term:

Another House Republican is retiring.

A spokesman for Colorado Congressman Tom Tancredo has confirmed he will not seek a sixth term.

Tancredo is running for the Republican presidential nomination, but the spokesman says the decision not to seek re-election is separate from that effort.

Tancredo has worked with Taiwan supporters in the US for a long time, so from that perspective, it is a great loss. From any perspective of a more positive future for my nation, however, this is a step forward....

Do you mean he will be running in 2012? I have never read anything about him running this year.

Too bad. Tancredo's a good guy.

Thankfully, we won't have to worry about A-bian going for another term either. Maybe the pluses and minuses on this one can cancel each other out.

I agree. Tom Tancredo has been a staunch ally of Taiwan; however, some of his political views are quite... unpopular. I just had a dinner banquet featuring former US representative to UN - John Bolton, I appreciate his support for Taiwan, but some of his extreme conservative views are hard for me to agree.

Trancredo on Taiwan = good

Everything else = evil

I'm not sad to see him go... there will be others who will carry to torch for Taiwan but we have no need for another immigrant hating racist bigot in Congress.
