Swine Flu Makes Landfall in Taiwan

Our first swine flu case:

Taiwan's health authorities on Wednesday reported the island's first confirmed case of Influenza A (H1N1), in an Australian doctor who arrived by plane from Hong Kong earlier in the week.

The 52-year-old cruise ship doctor arrived at Taipei airport on Monday and was responding well to treatment, said Shih Wen-yi, a spokesman from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

The man was found to be running a fever after arriving from New York via Hong Kong late Monday and was sent to hospital for testing, Shih said. Lab results confirmed early Wednesday that he had contracted the H1N1 virus.

"We urge the public not to panic and the passengers aboard the flight to contact the CDC for testing," he said.

Hope you all invested in some masks, because the price is about to skyrocket....

Two weeks ago my wife bought 6 boxes. I'll sell 'em for double what we paid.

I hope nobody takes your comment on masks seriously. It is pretty much an established fact that wearing of masks by healthy people in a bid to prevent infection is ineffective

Ye, I know they are ineffective. But everyone's wife will be out buying them, and forcing hubby to wear one. And we all will because we want to make our wives feel secure. See? Marital harmony trumps common sense, always.:)

I am pretty sure that CDC in Taiwan hope Taiwanese would become panic.

In USA, there are hundreds (or thousands now?) of cases, and nobody really cares about it now.

Last week, I saw a picture on newspaper. It is a picture of a Taiwanese couple wearing the mask. The subtitle said that there was no swine flu case in Taiwan. They found the most interesting picture at that time was not the ones in Mexico, USA, or whatever, it was in Taiwan where there was no case at all.

To create a "hero", KMT learned that they had to create panic.
