All of them, but maybe I am missing the point as the post is rather short and does not explain the intent (or link to someone else's site to explain).

The point--as I see it--is to underline the farcical nature of the moniker "Chinese Taipei" used in place of "Taiwan." Though we should also note that this idiotic term was not foisted upon us from some cruel international agency; it was the KMT government of the time that thought this was an acceptable compromise term (they vocally rejected using "Taiwan") to share space with the PRC at Olympic events!

Yes, Alex, you are missing the point. Look again and think!

On the subject of nations around the world, have you looked at the latest Legatum Prosperity Index?

http://www.prosperity.com/rankings

For some reason this year, Taiwan has been omitted. It was included in previous years (listed at around #22 in 2011).

I wrote to Legatum asking for a reason, but no reply so far.

The #1 spot was taken, somewhat surprisingly, by New Zealand.

China is way down at #90.

Alex - the point is the bizarre naming convention of "Chinese Taipei" to refer to the entire country of Taiwan ... which is neither Chinese nor consisting of merely one city.

Extremely sweet picture. I'm gonna borrow this and post it on facebook.

I would argue though. The proper name for Beijing should be "Mongolian Cambulac".

@Alex Feldstein: The intent is to highlight the nonsense of using "Chinese Taipei" to refer to Taiwan. Maybe we could use "Dutch Tainan" instead.

The point would have been better made had they not made a pig's ear of it with "German London". That's a bit of a stretch. The Anglo Saxons were partly from what is today called "Denmark" and partly from what is now called "Germany". To put that more accurately they would have had to say "Anglo-Jute-Saxon London" or something, but then what about the French speaking Normans? "Norman London"? Sounds like a crap porn star's name.

Very funny, would also like to add British New Delhi, Russian Kiev, and let's not forget Roman Paris.

@Mike: Per a very large genetic ancestry study done by Oxford U, "People of the British Isles Project", Anglo Saxon ancestry only accounts for 10 to 40 percent of present English genes and some of that would represent medieval Danes. London also predates Anglo Saxons so the whole name "German London" is ridiculous. The survey noted how the largest area of genetic similarity sits almost exactly over the heavily Romanized area of Britannia.
