Afraid ISO country codes is just tip of the iceberg. I was at a meeting with a few market data vendors (Bloomberg, Reuters, Factset..etc) a while ago and brought up this very same issue to them but to no avail. Companies that sell information and services have their eyes set on the Chinese market and don't want to piss them off.
Might be helpful is if our sovereign wealth fund is the same size as China Investment Corp.
