My father in law makes an entrance.
We ran up to Hsinchu again today to see the exhibition of my father in law's paintings at TSMC and to celebrate his 75th birthday. My brother in law, a manager in the personnel division, arranged the exhibition. We were not allowed to bring our cameras into the building, and so I do not have any photographs. After 20 minutes in a place where I had never been before, without my camera, well, I had to be led away mewling and puking. The separation was hard.
I got my fill of photos at the swank eatery that my sister and brother in law took us to in Hsinchu. We got a set meal and I assumed, like almost all set meals, that there wouldn't be enough food. So I ate quite a bit a the front end. Big mistake. For once, there was way too much food.

Scallops in chili sauce with pine nuts. Glorious.
Ribs in breadcrumbs, steamed in bamboo leaves. Glorious.

Tapioca sweets in coconut milk jelly. Glorious.
Celebrating my father in law's 75th.
I left out the goat ribs in pepper sauce, the dim sum, some of the appetizers, the fruit plate, the pudding, one of the soups....by the time we were finished, I never wanted to see food again. And that's saying a lot.

what is mayo?
There's a place in Taichung, near the idee department store, that looks *just* like that restaurant- complete with the zither player, wooden rooms to eat in, and a small stream underneath. Anyway, looks good! And that's really cool that your father in law is a painter.
mayo = mayonnaise.
Looks a lot like 'Gung-du Yuan'; there are several branches around Taichung. I love the look on the your daughter's (?) face as Mom wears a napkin hat! Should be a caption competition.

That's actually my niece, but that look was the reason I kept her in the pic when I cropped it.
It's a chain? Cool. I wondered, because when I looked it over, it had a nice atmosphere but no real passion behind it. You know, a real interesting one-off restaurant the owners will stuff with interesting gew-gaws and knick-knacks, but this place was barren.
