Yes because a portion of the new hotel sector depends on tour groups.

I think it's great that so many boutique hotels and B&Bs opened up, especially outside the major cities. The worst part of any round-island travel used to be the paucity of accommodation on the east coast, and how awful what was available was. I'm quite thankful the Chinese boom prodded people into investing in this sector and providing a lot more options, and much better options. I'm even more thankful the numbers are slowing down to make Taiwan a more attractive travel option for visitors that don't piss in public and actually spend more than a couple of dollars here.

No sympathy whatsoever for those attempting to live off of Chinese tour groups and the misery they bring.
