Shih Ming-teh, the former pro-democracy activist and DPP Chair who turned against the Green camp and led the faux Red Ant protests against Chen Shui-bian, had his seventieth birthday this week. To celebrate this, er, seminal event, Shih unveiled a nude portrait of himself. Video above. ADDED: And photo to boot. Add it to your Decline of Civilization pile.

I have never been a supporter of media censorship, but I could be persuaded to change my mind quite easily for the next 30 minutes. Authoritians, you have my undivided attention. LOL.
I guess dignity and honor are meaningless to some people.
I can't be bothered to watch the video. He probably needed money after he blew his red-ant kickback funds.
The way I heard it, his drinking led to the failure of his liver and some of the money from the red shirt campaign went to getting a transplant. Sadly he had money left over to continue the party. He's now drunk the new one to death and needs more money. Sorry sack of shit.
I thought it was a photo from his recent vacation in Thailand until I got to the part that said those are his daughters.
Ugh.

Shih and the red shirt army reminds me of a quote from Obi-Wan:
"Who's more foolish the fool or the fool who follows him."
It's not really that bad. The nudity is tame and there is nothing overtly sexual going on. That the two women are his daughters is somewhat WTF, but there are plenty of nudist families so I can't say this is too shocking.
I just read his Wikipedia entry (having been away from Taiwan since 1996, his name had faded, for me). There's certainly stuff in there to criticize, but I'm inclined to treat a former 25-year political prisoner with deference. Anyway...I like the portrait: There's a geezer with a sense of humor. Props.

And in the process revealed that his foppish dissidence over the years was not motivated by his love of Taiwan, but rather by his adulation of himself.
Having said that, the photo is really just the repressed hippy that is in many older Taiwanese who came of age in the 1960s and 1970s.
Still, what a hoot!
