The 2006 Taipei International Book Exhibition, Asia's largest largest book fair, will open next featuring European literature, the organizer said on Sunday.
'The focus of the 14th TIBE is on the literature of four European countries - France, Germany, Greece and Poland. The reason we choose these four nations is that the European Union has become the largest economy in the world and cultural diversity of Europe,' the TIBE Foundation said in a news release.
More than 20 foreign writers and publishers - mainly from France, Germany, Greece and Poland - will give speeches at seminars and panel discussions during the February 7-12 event, held at the Taipei World Trade Centre.
Also in Hsinchu some kind of flower art glass festival is opening this month:
The Hsinchu International Glass Festival, presented by the Glass Arts Museum from February 11 to April 30, will celebrate flower imagery with a spectacular glass flower city.
This year's festival, the sixth since 1995, will feature three main areas: fifty works by Taiwan's own glass artists, depicting flowers; fifty pieces from 26 international artists from more than 20 countries across Europe, the United States, Australia, and Japan; and finally a glorious vignette by an Italian artist, presenting eight scenes from Alice in Wonderland.
During the festival there will be 105 demonstrations of the various steps and procedures in the creation of glass art. In the performance area, there will also be 29 performances, two per weekend. Finally there will also be a multitude of DIY classes for both adults and children.
We hope to get up to Hsinchu in a couple of weeks to see the show. Hope to see you there!
