A Few Random Pics from Life

Blogger was down this morning. AAiiiiieeeeee! I haven't been so psychologically dislocated since Modell moved the Browns. I immediately swung into action, tossed the kids in the car, and bribing them to silence with chocolate cake, obtained the necessary stimulants and narcotics to cope with the situation,

and consoled myself with my collection of soft core porn betel nut girl pics.

Fortunately the down time only lasted a few hours.

Here are some pictures of my life lately....

My wife and I had a good laugh at this advertizement in downtown Taichung the other day:

If your English is bad it is not your fault! says the sign. I can't say I like their choice of foreigner for that ad; he looks like Rocco the English Enforcer.

Here's a pic of a common activity in Taiwan: hunting mosquitoes with those mosquito-killing racquets.

Saw this on Han Hsi W. Rd in Dali yesterday. I consider Han Hsi W. Rd to be the most dangerous road I have driven in Taiwan -- it has no lights and goes in a long looping curve that is blind along almost its entire length. There's no place to dodge, with the river wall on one side, and and a low wall on the other. Despite these dangers, people routinely pass here, and drive well above the speed limit. The results are obvious.

Saturday, election day, was an auspicious day for weddings as well. Here a wedding photographer films a procession at a stoplight.

Betel nut girls on Han Hsi W. Rd. I like the foreshortening effect of the long lens.

Yes it's that time of year again. And Halloween still hanging out back there.

My students took this pick of me yesterday.

Yes, Eva, Maggie, and Emily. Here is your picture. In public.

Vivacious and intelligent, Kiki poses during rehearsals for the play.

I love the play of light on Claire's finely-chiseled features.

I know this probably isn't the place, but I was hoping to see some commentary on the recent elections. I was interested in your interpretation of the why the DPP fared so poorly as well as the future shift in power in Taiwan, from your perspective.

Interesting... today I wrote about caffeine, too. Your bit about the terror of seeing blogger down cracked me up, too. I felt the same thing, though maybe not nearly so strongly as you did. As I've said elsewhere, I'm in awe of your blog-reading prowess. I don't think I could keep up with all the blogs you do even if I read 1500 words a minute.
