Chalmers Johnson on Anti War

Johnson has an article on the US, China and Taiwan at Anti-War.com which is utterly clueless about Taiwan, and worse, uncritically accepts China's claims, and defends its positions while attacking Taiwan for wanting freedom and independence. He also seems to accept the KMT's spin on Taiwan politics. Very sad.

From Scott Sommers.
I haven't read the article, but I don't know why this would surprise anyone. Just because Chalmers Johnson is a famous academic doesn't mean that he knows anything--or even that he knows how to do research. While MOFA spends a fortune on textbooks for overseas Chinese schools and the GIO sends Taipei Review all over the world, virtually nothing is being said about Taiwan in the print media that real people read.

I just had a quick look at Johnson's article. Wow, I was unaware of the Taiwan/Japan conspiracy against China. This came as a surpise to me especially because the last time I was in Japan, I was informed that banks in the country do not honour ROC currency.

I have encountered many articles related to Taiwan from www.anit-war.com. And from what I've read, I believe the website is either knowingly or unknowingly helping spread China's propaganda.

Great letter in today's Taipei Times. I appreciated the voice of realism in what could easily become an emotion-charged situation.

Thanks! I had a lot of fun drafting that one. Some personal history there; Carter once accused me of hating America - he's a Canadian who loves Bush, a rara avis indeed. He was a fellow teacher at Chaoyang last year.
