After the Taipei City Government “encouraged” staffers to promote the Taipei International Flora Expo, civil servants at 12 district offices and household registration offices yesterday started the day by joining the “flora expo dance,” confusing residents who visited their offices.I think I must go now to medicate with alcohol....
Civil servants have been practicing the 30-second dance, aimed at promoting the expo, in their offices during lunch hours or after work since last month, with the city’s Department of Civil Affairs asking all district offices to start dancing this month when offices opened and to invite the residents to join in the “fun.”

What is it with group dancing in Taiwan anyway? If you ever visited a campus, you are most likely to see undergraduates burning their free time practicing "sexy" and "daring" dance moves...
ReplyDeleteI hope it at least pays off for them with the ladies.
The Hau administration busy winning the civil service vote.
ReplyDelete1. it's a group
ReplyDelete2. everyone moves identically -- therefore it appeals to the sense of order and all are equal
3. no equipment required. No expensive bike, no scuba breathing apparatus....
4. don't have to do anywhere, just need an empty space preferably out of the sun.
5. it's like socialization but you don't have to talk
6. etc
Some of the facial expressions are priceless.
ReplyDeleteScenes like this and the law maker fights on You Tube make you just scratch your head and ask, WTF?
ReplyDeleteI mean, really ... WTF?
oh, this dance is horrible. it's goofy and useless. what a joke!
ReplyDeleteI think it's kinda cool actually. A bit like a Flashmob.
ReplyDeleteAnd that old guy not moving a single muscle in his face, no matter what crazy things are happening around him ... I wouldn't want to play poker against him ...

Sorry, sorry. This is goofy goofy.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if the choreographer won $1 million bucks coming up with the dance steps.
I think people were most shocked by the fact that they were doing something. Having tried to negotiate what papers I needed to fill out and provide for doing a business with a Taiwanese person, I can understand their amazement that the bureaucrats were actually doing something.
ReplyDelete"6. etc"
ReplyDeleteawesome.
Wow, that is one bizarre flower dance. Way to shake that booty Hau.... John Travolta you are not.
ReplyDeleteHahaha, this is hilarious.
ReplyDeleteI was told that some male civil servants in Taipei City complained about their discomfort and humiliation in being forced to bare their "sissy" selves publically.
This is ridiculous. It makes me think Taiwanese people are never allowed to grow up. Even at work they are treat the same way as in an elementary school.
ReplyDeleteI was watching a group of trainee lifeguards at my pool the other day being made to line up like soldiers and getting shouted at by the instructor. Just like in PE class at my school...
