Seriously, it does show how completely disconnected people in the US are from the reality of events in Taiwan (Ma is going to sell you guys out, DC, and he has basically ceased independent diplomacy on the island's behalf). Also, note that for the second time this year, President Ma of the ROC will be speaking via telecast to an audience in the US, this one made up of Congress persons. Think China will soil its linens over this one like the time Chen Shui-bian had the audacity to show up at the National Press Club in teleconference? Why am I even asking that question?

I can perhaps understand why a Hispanic group MIGHT want to honor Ma, because of all the money Taiwan dumps into the coffers certain Central American nations. What I don't get is why a Hispanic org is honoring Pence, who is a hard-line anti-immigration neo-con Republican.
ReplyDeleteCan I request you get a better background image/color? It's not a good reflection of the blog's otherwise serious, insightful content.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it a little late for April Fool's gags? Please tell me this is a joke or that bribery was involved in the selection process.
ReplyDeleteAnon, what's wrong with the color? Should I just go with flat black?
ReplyDeleteIt has got to be one of the most outrageous news I've heard in a long time. Come to think about it, if the former Vice-Pres Lien could be invited to be a speaker in Berkeley on cross-strait, maybe this shouldn't come as such a shock.
ReplyDeleteI, and I'm sure a big portion of the Taiwanese, are getting very sick of the government "downgrading" its name to Chinese Taipei and so on. And now Ma is being awarded for his leadership?
"Should I just go with flat black?"
ReplyDeleteMaybe Anon is recommending something in a "blue" background...?
Now now, maybe we are misinterpreting the honor. Ma is extraordinarily good at setting an example for two-faced, ineffective, sellouts everywhere.
ReplyDeleteMichael,
ReplyDeleteThe background image with the jagged edges just looks terrible. It's a repeating image, but it doesn't look like it was meant to repeat vertically and you get this very prominent unintentional looking border where the image repeats. The color isn't so great either.
You have plenty of photos; nothing wrong with a single color background.
I'd go with something like #EED if you wanted something a little off-white or otherwise I think a subdued yellow similar to #DD9 would work well with the green that's common in your photos/borders, though you would have to rework some of the other borders.
None of the Blogger themes are to your liking? With a prominent photo at the top and huge sidebars ;), it won't really look like anyone else's blog.
