Forkers

Last week my friend Emily took me to the best burger joint in Taipei, Forkers (佛客). Address: 8, Alley 10, Ln 223, Zhongxiao E Rd Sec 4, 台北市忠孝東路四段223巷10弄8號 (02) 2771-9285).

Here is one of the appetizers, fresh-made nacho chips and mozzarella and artichoke dip. Yum.

This is Joe, the friendly proprietor of Forkers.

Pure hamburger heaven. Dishes are all under $400, with most in the $250-300 range, including a drink, and choice of two sides.

The Hackburger. Pull up a chair to the bar by the cash register and get Joe to tell you the story of how this burger came to be.

  1. Now you've done it Michael!

I've been looking for a reason to get up to Taipei during CNY.

What is that "Hackburger" made from?

  2. the food at KGB (Kiwi Gourmet Burger) near Guting is quite a lot better. Seriously. The patties are of a much higher quality and the chefs have a much better understanding of flavours. There's a reason I've never seen a hack burger anywhere else before.

I do have to admit to knowing KGB manager matt when I lived in Taipei.

  3. they r good size portions, but i guess for 250-300 bux that's the amount of burger you'd expect for it.

  4. Wow. That place is pretty close to where I live. I'll have to check it out. There are quite a few burger places around.

The real factor that will influence whether I go there or not is the waitstaff.

I really don't enjoy the "death before speaking to whitey in Chinese" attitude amongst the Taiwanese staff at California Grill (in 永康街). I think the same thing happened at KGB, too. Since I don't normally feel like that kind of hassle when I'm just going out for a bite to eat, I tend to avoid those places.

    Mary's Hamburger is great, though.

  5. That's the best advertising, word-of-mouth with mouthwatering photos.

I think I'm asking what a lot of people are curious about--what's the story behind Joe+Forkers?
