BREAKING: China Spy case in Presidential office

Big arrest today in spy case in which presidential office employee was spying for The Great and Benevolent Beijing Government Whose Heart Is Filled With Love For Taiwan As Evidenced By Two Pandas... KNN has the call:

Taipei District Prosecutors Office yesterday dispatched prosecutors to the Presidential Office to search the office of Senior Special Assistant Wang Ren-bing, who is attached to the Counselor’s Office. This was the first time that the Presidential Office had been searched by the prosecutors. The Presidential Office held a press conference at 4:00 p.m. to report on the unprecedented turn of events.

According to press reports, Wang was suspected of leaking documents related to the preparation of the inauguration ceremony of President Ma Ying-jeou and Vice President Vicent Siew to Chen Pin-jen, an assistant of KMT aboriginal legislator Liao Kuo-tung. Chen then allegedly faxed those documents to Mainland China’s intelligence agencies. Chen had also sent secret documents from the Second Bureau of the Presidential Office to the Mainland’s Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Strait.

Huang Mo-hsin, one of the Head Prosecutors in the Taipei District Prosecutors’ Office, yesterday led investigators from the Bureau of Investigation under the Ministry of Justice to search the Presidential Office as well as Chen’s residence. Head Prosecutor Huang also subpoenaed five people for questioning. Wang and Chen had violated both the Criminal Code (Article 132) and the National Security Act (Article 2, paragraph 1). Article 132 of the Criminal Code stipulates that it is a crime to leak national secrets, and the National Security Act prohibits gathering intelligence for foreign countries or the Mainland Area 【of the Republic of China】. After questioning until midnight, the prosecutors requested to the court that Wang and Chen be detained, citing concerns that they would collude with others or flee abroad. After a hearing, the Taipei District Court gave its approval to have Wang and Chen detained incommunicado.

According to informed sources, the National Security Bureau confirmed that Wang had been acting as a spy for the Mainland and reported the matter to President Ma, who then issued instructions to “respect our justice system and cooperate with the investigations.”
As a perspicacious friend pointed out, hard to pin this one on either Blue or Green, but it's the kind of thing that is going to remind people that the government Ma is kissing up to hates and fears Taiwan, and intends nothing good for it.

  1. What do they need to send spies here for? I'm sure Lien Chan will tell them anything they want to know, and then some.

  2. They sent their own spies because Lien Chan can't get into the Presidential Office.
