Photography Club Dec 21
Veteran Photographer Darren Melrose leads a photo club. He notes:

First off, I hope that you have had the chance to sign up with flickr, or at least visit the group’s flickr page at http://www.flickr.com/groups/taiwanphotoclub/, where you can see shots from other members of the group, read news of the club, participate in the Scavenger Hunt and generally get a sense of the community. I would also like to encourage everyone to post your Scavenger Hunt photos; I have the feeling that many, including myself, have been holding back some.

Secondly, it looks as the date of the next meeting is more or less set. It will happen on Sunday December 21st, 2008. We will meet at Yuma Southwestern Grill, a new Tex-Mex restaurant in Taipei. The address is: Lane 216, Alley 11, #21 Zhongxiao East Road, Section 4. The number there is (02)8773-8895. Like last time, there will be a lunch (or breakfast, not sure), a discussion and then we will head out to do some shooting.

Donations Wanted
Finally, this post on DailyKos asks for donations to a home for HIV sufferers.

WE ARE PROUD TO ANNOUNCE:

Democrats Abroad Organizational Meeting, January 17. You MUST be registered as a member to vote, so get your Democratic butt over to Democrats Abroad.org and register.

Organize! Run for leadership positions! Vote!

DA Taiwan is going to hold an annual general meeting on January 17th, 2009 from 2 p.m. to about 5 p.m. in Taipei to elect board members and to take the formal steps necessary to upgrade our DA Taiwan country committee to being a full "voting" committee. The event will be at Famous Larry's Pizza, Yanji St, Lane 137, No. 2 (台北市延吉街137巷2號), Ph: 2771-1032.

We finally have the membership numbers and a lot of energy, and now is the perfect time to hold elections and follow the necessary steps to ensure we have DA Taiwan back in full swing again! We can share information about what we've been doing and definitely want to hear back from you!

Candidates Needed! We will need candidates for director and supervisor positions. The chair and vice-chair positions must be of the opposite gender under Democratic Party rules, and so we do hope we can get a good, balanced mix of candidates. Let us know ASAP if your interested in running, so that we can start putting together ballot information.

Not in Taipei? If you are not in Taipei but want to run for the board, keep in mind that modern telecommunications can help ensure your active involvement. If getting to the meeting is geographically difficult, we will also try to ensure your vote is counted via proxy voting.

Other Opportunities! In addition to the formal elected positions, there is a lot of room for you to get involved as a committee member on one of the standing or ad-hoc committees to be established. There are so many geographic and demographic reasons why you can be an enormous help in reaching American voters living in Taiwan!

More information will be distributed soon on the venue location, procedures, draft bylaws and other formalities.

You must be an American citizen over 18 to join and participate. In addition to replying to this invite, you MUST also register with Democrats Abroad at www.democratsabroad.org, do it today!

  1. Although I generally consider Democrats even more dangerous than usual when they gang up, I think a "Democrats Abroad Taiwan" group might be helpful if enough people who love Taiwan join and can able to influence Democratic policy in a positive direction. Of course, if most of the members are pro-annexation then it will be dangerous. But we can hope the members are less like Mr. Biden and more like Mr. Turton.

  2. I just heard the Illinois governor was arrested and charged with trying to sell Obama's senate seat.

That's not the interesting part. What makes it interesting is the fact that the judge considered him a flight risk and ordered that the governor surrender his passport.

You mean they didn't have to throw him in jail?!!!!!

  3. You mean they didn't have to throw him in jail?!!!!!

You mean for up to six months without contact with the outside world?

That's not civilized democratic societies conduct plitics.
