* Mr. BURTON of Indiana. Madam Speaker, I rise as a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and member of the House Taiwan caucus, to honor the people of the Republic of China (Taiwan)--a strong strategic partner and ally not only to the United States but also among the democratic nations of our world--as they prepare to celebrate their 97th National Day on October 10th......

I sense a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of Chinese people suddenly got their feelings hurt...

ReplyDeleteAbout this time last year I heard a European visitor ask the Taiwan guys from the local office about the National Day Celebrations. His question was simply, "How many years old?". This reslulted in a quick conference between the Taiwan guys to figure out how to answer the question. After some discussion, the answer: Almost 60 years old.
