What's your opinion on these Taiwan-UN shirts?

A reader sent me some proposals for T-shirts for Taiwan's entry into the UN. Here's the first variant:

The other three, all variations on this theme, are here:

I've already given my opinion privately. Please post yours in the comments below.

  2. All are quite interesting...where and when will any of these be available?

  3. initial gut feeling...
I love the idea... but the design seems a little "busy" for a shirt. I think it would be hard to read.

  5. The posted photograph on your Blog is the best one of the four.

  6. I like the first one.

Are these going to be made into t-shirts, if so, any ideas how I could get one?

    cheers!

  7. Too many visual elements at play, and too much text. A good t-shirt design should get its message across at a glance. The overall concept is confusing because it looks like the UN is the one who's suffering and not Taiwan.

While we're at it, why not have some fun and introduce some humor into the issue? Maybe doing a "Choose Taiwan" shirt in big letters, a la Wham's "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" video. Then get a group of Taiwanese college students to perform a skit recreating the video in front of the UN building. Maybe ask George Michael (And I mean "sex in the bushes with other men" George Michael, not "Sports Machine" George Michael)to make an appearance.

Note to Taiwanese students reading this: that last part was a joke. Please cease and desist with all forms of public skits immediately. Thank you.

  8. Well, I dont like it. It's kind of arrogant. I think Taiwan can focus on other issues other than joining the UN...

  9. It gave me the feeling I am reading a newspaper...
Slogan should be shorter and more "visual"
But I believe it is a little bit too late now ;-)

  10. The slogan is too weak to persuade, and too many visual elements in a T-shirt.

For me, I will put the Taiwan behind a red bar and have the following catch:

    Taiwan Crying for UN!!!

    Nothing else.

  11. I know I'm being lazy, but could you make the other choices into links? I cut and pasted them all and looked at them all, but not sure if other readers would be inclined to do the same.

As long as Taiwanese people are wearing those shirts and rallying out in front of the foreign media, what is on the shirt doesn't really matter; I get the general idea. :)

I think the message is too negative and it misses the most important point. That is, the UN is opposing the fact that Taiwan is already a nation.

Focus more on why Taiwan is already a state. Show lots of happy Taiwanese faces, too.

  13. my opinion is that the exercise was a complete waste of time and money.

  14. I like the idea but putting "badly behaved nations" on there probably isn't the best way to put things.

not to mention, the design could definitly be more wearable. something that people of all ages would wear and not be embarrssed, and perhaps even "cool."
