To all,
The venue is confirmed, it will be at The Shannon on Sunday, June 17 at 10 am. The breakfast options will be the same as last time.
Shananon's address is 6 Tun Hua North Road, just south of Nanking E. Rd., next to Dan Ryan's and across from the new baseball stadium. (02) 2772-0948
The speaker is Felicia Lin who will be going to the States in early July to have a place to finish her writings. Felicia is working on the biography of Su Beng (aka Shi Mei, Shi Ming and Su Bing) a man with a rich and broad past; A Taiwanese who graduated from university in Japan in 1942; he went to China and fought with the Communists against Japan, and then later against the KMT but he would not join the communists. He came back to Taiwan in 1949 and fought against Chiang Kai-shek's authoritarian rule in Taiwan (we are talking guns and bullets fighting, not just words) later fled to Japan and wrote a mammoth work 400 Years of Taiwanese History etc. etc. You have to come to hear the rest. Felicia has a website dedicated to this; if some want a much shorter introduction, you can read "Su Beng: A Man Still Unafraid to Speak for Democracy" in my work Taiwan, the Struggles of a Democracy. Bring your questions, they will help Felicia sharpen her focus.
Felicia's blog that is dedicated to Su Beng is: www.aboutsubeng.blogspot.com
It is well worth checking out; and a must if you will be coming on the 17th.
Look to see you all there.
Jerome
