Taiwan Communique 113 Hot off the press

Hello Taiwan-Focus friends,

I hereby like to let you know that issue no. 113 of Taiwan Communiqué is off the press. We give a brief summary of past events, such as the important statement by President Chen at FAPA-25, the 228 Commemorations in Taiwan and here in the US -- in particular an account of our 228 Symposium at Brookings and the very successful "Run for Taiwan" from
Philadelphia to Washington.

Then we focus on name change and Constitutional change in Taiwan. You can use these articles to ask your Congressmen and Senators for support on these important issues. We also present a good article by Prof.
Jerome Keating on the removal of Chiang Kai-shek's statues, and a book review on a scholarly new book by Mark Harrison on Taiwanese identity.

In the report from Washington, Coen Blaauw writes about the very supportive actions of Congressman Tom Tancredo, and we give a brief introduction -- and welcome -- to Joseph Wu as new ambassador of Taiwan in
Washington.

Here is the link at the taiwandc website, where you can read the full issue in PDF format.

Best regards,

Gerrit van der Wees
Editor, Taiwan Communiqué
