Shih to Thailand

Under the category of Where are they now? former democracy activist turned anti-democracy tool Shih Ming-te is off to Thailand next week for a televised debate on street protests, reports the Bangkok Post yesterday. Unfortunately the article does not appear to be online yet. Think Shih will meet up with his pal, the notorious embezzler Chen Yu-hao while there in Thailand?

UPDATE: Move keyboard before you read this. the deep Blue newspaper UDN is reporting that Shih is being considered for Nobel Peace prize nomination. Hopefully it's just hot air.

UPDATE II: It's just hot air, mercifully.

  2. Why don't you tag it as "Where are they now?"?

  4. Here's what it says on the Nobel Prize web site's Nomination Facts page [italic emphasis mine, bold in original]:

Has X been nominated as a candidate for the Nobel Prize?

Information about the nominations, investigations, and opinions concerning the award is kept secret for fifty years.

What about the rumors circling around the world about certain people being nominated for the Nobel Prize this year?

Well, either it's just a rumor, or someone among the invited nominators has leaked out information. Since the nominations are kept secret for 50 years, you'll have to wait until then to find out.

Was Stalin ever nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize?

The Secretary General of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (1922-1953), Joseph Stalin, was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 1945 and 1948 for his efforts to end World War II.

There ya go. Considering the source, it's probably a rumor, though the possibility exists that a pan-blue legislator was invited to nominate somebody. Unfortunately, we'd have to wait until the leaker of such info is long gone to find out. Why worry? Shih wouldn't get the prize in a million years.
