I haven't read that essay yet. It seems a bit long...
It is however interesting to note that Taiwan's government is also doing something similar with Taiwan's history using idea taken from Wikipedia. Of course with their "checking" (or cencoring) process by their "professional teams" it is hardly the same as the "free-and-open-encyclopaedia" Wikipedia.
I have many reservations about Wikipedia, and often have a hard time communicating to students why something that seems so professional in reality may be nothing more than their younger sister offering "facts." On the one hand it is a wonderful affirmation of grassroots power and open source, but on the other there has to be some guidance, at the very least.
