Ma keeps attempting to get his people in....

Democracy has not yet fully expanded into the core structures of the KMT, as this article attests.....

Six opposition Kuomingtang legislators said yesterday they will suggest that the KMT amend its charter and allow party representatives to directly elect members of the Standing Committee.

The legislators, who are strong supporters of KMT Chairman-elect Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九), are Wu Yu-sheng (吳育昇), Chen Chieh (陳杰), Lee Chia-chin (李嘉進), Lee Fu-hsing, Lin Hung-chih (林鴻池) and Lai Shyh-bao (賴士葆).

They said at a conference that they will raise a motion in the 17th KMT General Assembly to be held August 19 to amend the party's charter and request that the party's representatives be allowed to elect Standing Committee members through a direct vote.

According to the proposal, 1,600 representatives of the KMT's grassroots members should first be authorized to elect 210 members of the party's Central Committee and then elect 31 members of the Standing Committee from elected members of the Central Committee.

Obviously with the Committee members in the hands of the Party insiders who are opposed to Ma, both reform and victory in 2008 will become problematical.
