Winds take down a construction fence in Tanzi.
The typhoon fizzled, dumping a lot of rain and then leaving, a far cry from the Central Weather Bureau's expectation that this would be the worst storm in five years (that one was last year). The media has reported four deaths, though there do not seem to be any of Darwin-award variety.
Our backyard is a disaster area. One of our shelves blew over and disintegrated. You can see one of our dogs looking all forlorn there by the door. A red bean popsicle to anyone who can say what item in this yard indicates that I have become much too Taiwanese....
Stuff everywhere.
On the home front, our dog is healing up fine from the acid attack earlier this month and our cat has returned, simply out for a long vacation and not actually catnapped.
UPDATE: My wife just called from Taipei to tell me that the north got hit hard, and sections of the freeway were washed out. The Taipei Times reports that:
In Taipei City, howling winds uprooted trees and street signs. Billboards lay toppled on the roads, and sandbags lined the doors of shops and homes. Household waste collection service was unavailable yesterday because all garbage trucks were being used to collect leaves and tree branches that had fallen on streets.

Is that a leather chair outside? If the weather is nice,

BTW, love your site. I'll be in Taichung in October, for 2 weeks. to study with the teacher of my American martial arts teacher - after typhoon season.
