Wow,
Stumbled onto your website when I googled Taiwanese breakfast and for the pass two day have been going through each page completely transported back to Taiwan by the wonderful and plentiful pictures. Thanks, for all of your hard work putting this site together. I lived in Taiwan 91-93 while on a mission for my church. I have often looked for a site with such everyday 'real life' pictures , but all to often I ended up at some tourist type site with some pictures but nothing I related to or could even relate to. Your pictures are awesome, perfect.
I especially enjoyed the pictures of the food, night markets, neighborhoods pictures, and all the others. It felt like I was back in Taiwan, I miss it dearly. I got to go back soon, till then you site will do the trick,
thanks again.

That's what the website's for, man!
Hi Michael:
ReplyDeleteI found your newsfeed at http://michaelturton.blogspot.com/atom.xml
You might want to put a link on your site to it.
I really enjoyed the photos of your Lunar New Year Visit to Neiwan and Beipu. You really have a good sense of the 'real' Taiwan that reminds me a lot of how one of my favorite writers Tim Parks approaches the 'real Italy in his books Italian Neighbors and An Italian Education. You might enjoy the latter especially since it is about his children growing up in Italy and becoming Italian. There are many paralels with Taiwan.

Isn't there a site feed link showing up there? I think I'll move it to the top. It should be at the bottom.

Actually, I was born in Little Italy in Cleveland, and my mother's side is all Nick-s and Tony-s and Maria-s
and Lisa-s. I think that's why I'm so comfortable here. I realized the links a while back, and in fact my masters thesis was on Industrial Districts in Taiwan, but using italy as one of the comparisons. Basically living here is like being with family back in the US, everyone speaking a language I don't understand, and eating ethnic food.
Thanks! I'll be getting stuff up next week. I have a ton of translation work due in March, so I won't have time to write much :(.
