It's just another debasement of a US tradition by the Bush Administration. So fire away!

MichaelMichael Turtonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17974403961870976346noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10698887.post-6805889095978059342007-12-02T12:57:00.000+08:002007-12-02T12:57:00.000+08:00Michael:I'm not really pro-China, but what you sai...Michael:

I'm not really pro-China, but what you said about the Dalai Lama...first he should have never got the medal.

The Freedom Medal was intended for:

"The decoration is awarded to any individual who performs an outstanding deed or act of service to the security, prosperity, and national interest of the United States. The honoree need not be an American citizen."

Somehow I do not think the Dalai Lama was concerned about Tibetan freedom when he was lording over his 'serfs', he was only concerned about his "freedom" to lord over them the way the Lords of Europe in the Dark Age did. He thought if he paid tribute to China, as a Lord would to the King he would be okay.

The CCP was not interested in that type of relationship and sought direct control over his and the other Lama's land. That is what he is upset about.

Read about the history of Tibet.

pmsol3.wordpress.com/2007/11/20/everything-the-media-hides-about-tibet/

Anon:

Why doesn't "all that stuff happen?"

Because too much money is changing hands.

Korea, Vietnam, Japan, and America all have too much invested in or expect to get a considerable amount from China. Countries in Asia are worried about China's rise, but ASEAN+3 should show you money trumps politics most of the time. This is Realpolitik. As long as China does not make an highly provocative move, government/business elites can argue the finer points in order to save face before their populations.

There will be no organized anti-China coalition in the near future. No one cares about Tibet. The main issue is China. As long as no conflict breaks out or China can blame any conflict directly on Taiwan and spin it that way, nothing big will happen...it will be another Tienamen, after a year the world will get over it and go back to making money.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10698887.post-74762835067713748332007-12-01T23:51:00.000+08:002007-12-01T23:51:00.000+08:00"China is pissing off other countries too, so they..."China is pissing off other countries too, so they need to gang up on China and "explain" it. this need to happen fast or it will be too late"

That's probably what the U.S. would be doing if they weren't preocuppied with Iraq but why doesn't Taiwan step up to the plate and do it, they can't always depend on the U.S. Why doesn't Taiwan form a coalition with other Asian countries to contain China and then invite the U.S. to join....like the coalition formed by Western countries with China and Japan that contained Russia. China is angering Vietnam in the South China Seas, claiming a province in India and a bunch of islands in Indonesia. There are also territorial disputes with Korea and Japan's security depends on an independent Taiwan. Many countries in Asia are worried about China's raise.

JeanneAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10698887.post-54775596738981776822007-12-01T13:15:00.000+08:002007-12-01T13:15:00.000+08:00There's a term to describe the behavior about Chin...There's a term to describe the behavior about China. China is a bully. you need to deal with China like you do with any bully.

China is pissing off other countries too, so they need to gang up on China and "explain" it. this need to happen fast or it will be too late. more and more, China is acting like a kid who found his dad's gun.MJ Kleinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16859263977094071677noreply@blogger.com
