Some of the videos are from the 30s, like some of the (mismarked) Japanese footage, which I've actually seen before on a DVD I bought from Eslite. I think it was published by one of Taiwan's history museums (for a lot less than the prices this site is asking for).

Yes, it seems that videos of Taiwan marked "1950" are really from the Japanese imperial era, and most likely 1935-1940. For example, shops and buildings display both Chinese characters and the katakana script. Very interesting stuff!
