The Bunung Resort

A couple of years ago I swung around Taiwan with my Taiwanese in-laws (some pictures from our trip); this year we journeyed with my parents. Both times we visited the Bunung Resort outside of Luye in Taitung county, about twenty minutes from downtown Taitung city.

The resort is set in beautiful mountain scenery and offers displays of singing and dancing, a pool, a spa, and the usual assortment of coffee shops, restaurants, and gift shops. Everything on the grounds is hand carved, creating a wonderful atmosphere.

Being a doer of things, I personally find resorts dull but suspect that twenty years from now I will like that feeling. There isn't much to do at Bunung except loll around in the spa or take a dip in the pool, but many of Taitung's well-known attractions, such as Chulu Farm, the Peinan Archaeological Site, and the Luye Tea District, are easily accessible. Thus it makes a good base for forays into the surrounding area.

Rooms are charged at competitive rates, but if you make a donation to the tribal foundation, you can get free tickets for room stays.

Enjoy a few pix Ive posted from Bunung and its environs.

I stayed there in 1996 for 3 weeks and volunteered in the cafe. It looks like they've developed it quite a bit since then. There was no swimming pool back then. I remember it was very beautiful there and everyone was very nice.

It's not related to the Wulu Bunun, is it? Someone burned me a CD by a cellist named David Darling who recorded the songs of a Taiwanese aboriginal tribe and added some cello to interesting effect.
